For a lot of us, January can be disorienting — you’re setting new goals and planning ahead while trying to shake off that post-holiday hangover energy. So we’ve thought up a few fun ways to ease into the new year that will have you trying new things, revisiting old friends, and taking things slooow.
Candlelight Concert
On several nights this month, The Kirk of Highland (a historic 19-century church turned wedding venue) transforms for a multi-sensory musical experience. Listen to orchestral renditions of popular music while surrounded by thousands of glowing candles.
Afternoon Tea
After weeks of heavy holiday libations, slow it down with something warm, simple, and delicious at afternoon tea, complete with finger foods and fancy pastries. Places like the Brown Palace and Hotel Boulderado are known for their tea time, but this month I’ll be checking out Babe’s Tea Room for sweet sips and Insta-worthy aesthetics.
Do A Puzzle
If you used up all your extrovertness over the holidays, I’d recommend staying inside, throwing on something comfy, and getting cozy with a good ol’ jigsaw puzzle. City Cast Denver producer Paul Karolyi suggests getting a classic Charley Harper portrait. My personal go-to is something from Boulder-based Liberty Puzzles.

Prismajic
Denver’s next best immersive art experience might just be the brand new Prismajic installation at Colorado Mills Mall. Explore the otherworldly domain of the Shiki, a mystical Japanese forest yeti. But why stop with what you can see? Taste something magical at The Night Owls lounge serving up curated cocktails and snacks.
Astrology 101
January is a time for looking inward and recentering your intentions for the new year and local artist and astrologer Grace Noel wants to help with that. In her beginners astrology class, she’ll help you better understand your zodiac sign and what it could teach you about yourself.
(Re)Visit Domo
Speaking of “new year, new me” vibes, Domo Japanese Restaurant is finally open again, but owner Gaku Homma says things will be different. Denver diners panicked when the longstanding dining staple closed apparently for good in September 2022. Now, Domo is back, but will be operating on a much smaller scale. “This is a re-start,” Homma said in a Facebook post. “Like when Domo started 26 years ago.”
