Your Guide to June in Denver

00:00:00

We’re on June’s doorstep now, and even if it’s not technically summer yet, it sure feels like it is! The sun is out, temps are high, and spirits are soaring from that extra boost of vitamin D ☀️ Here’s how to keep cool, have fun, and make the most of June in the Mile High.

🏳️‍🌈 Get Your Pride On

Enjoy slick dance beats from Empress Of and dynomite drag from Mikki Miraj at Indie 102.3’s Pride Party of Pride parties Thursday, June 6, at Meow Wolf’s Perplexiplex event space. Stick around for the afterparty with Hex Kitten in the upstairs cocktail lounge, Sips (with a Z).

🪴 Grow a More Eco-Friendly Garden

According to this local gardening expert, June is the “sweet spot” for planting your water-wise Colorado native seedlings. Want to make the shift to more eco-conscious gardening habits, but not sure how to get started? Now’s the time to check out a local Native Plant Swap event where you can get seedlings for free and learn more about native gardening.

🍗 Pick the Best Chicken Biscuit

From June 10 to July 28, The Post Chicken & Beer is proud to present the Battle of the Chicken Biscuits — a two-month bracket-style competition that will pit nine unique takes on the Post’s signature chicken biscuit slider head-to-head. Menus at every Post location will feature two new biscuits paired with a Post beer each week throughout the competition until the best biscuit slider wins!

🥤 Sip a 7-Eleven Slurpee

Is it just Denver, or is people-watching from a 7-Eleven curb while sippin’ a signature Coke Slurpee an unspoken summer pastime everywhere?

🍓 Eat All of the Strawberries

Make it a mini mountain getaway when you make the two-and-a-half hour drive to Glenwood Springs for the town’s 127th annual Strawberry Days Festival. This free family-friendly weekend-long tradition centers on community, showcases local creators, and celebrates all things strawberry-related.

🎬 Catch a Cult Classic Horror Flick

Keep cool in a dark air-conditioned theater at Sie FilmCenter for the latest installment of the quarterly Scream Screen horror flick series, hosted and curated by local B Movie expert Theresa Mercado. The June 22 screening will be Bruce Toscano’s “The Jar,” a 1984 cult classic filmed entirely in Denver! Don’t miss an in-person post-film discussion with Toscano, screenwriter George Bradley, and star of the show, Gary Wallace.

🍔 Enjoy Drag Nights at Hamburger Mary’s

A longtime staple of the local LGBTQ+ community, Hamburger Mary’s is known for two things: excellent drag shows and hamburgers. From Drag Bingo every Wednesday to Drag Brunch every weekend (and Drag Dinners in between!), you’ll never not have a good time at this City Park hangout.

🍷 Do Some Sangría Patio Sippin’

Soak up summer patio vibes at RiNo’s Barcelona Wine Bar. Take your pick from the restaurant’s staggering menu of wines, sherries, cocktails, and fresh sangría. Feeling peckish? Add on a gourmet charcuterie board or something from the Spanish tapas menu — we like the whipped sheep’s cheese or the bacon-wrapped dates.

🪩 Calling All Disco Queens

For the dance freaks, punkers, and party monsters out there, Blow Pony’s Pride festivities at Trade are the down and dirty dance party you’ve been looking for! This famed Portland event comes to Denver for one night only on Saturday, June 22, with DJs, go-go dancers, and RuPaul’s Drag Race Alum Hershii LiqCour-Jeté and June Jambalaya among the honored dance floor guests.
