It’s March — historically, Denver’s snowiest month, but typically dotted with brief unseasonably warm pockets of sunshine that leave you toting around way too many extra layers of clothing 🙃 But March is also good for crane-spotting, snow sports, and channeling your inner Irishman. Here’s a sneak peek of our picks for March fun in and around the Mile High.
Something to Do
Go Skijoring with Your Dog
What’s more Denver than cross-country skiing with your dog pulling you? Take advantage of all that snow at these Denver-adjacent, dog-friendly ski trails.
Witness the Colorado’s Sandhill Crane Migration
The best place to watch these tall, elegant, crimson-capped birds as they pass through Colorado (and perform their springtime bond renewal ritual — AWW 💕) is Monte Vista in the San Luis Valley. The town even celebrates the season with an annual Crane Festival (March 8-10).

Something to Eat or Drink
Eat All the Oysters
March is Oyster Month! You can indulge at any of the five metro Denver Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar locations. Throughout the month, each Jax outpost will offer its own signature oyster selections — raw, fried, chargrilled, Rockefeller, and more. If you really want to shell out, check out Jax’s Bubbles and Pearls Oyster Gala dinner March 24.
Try Denver’s Best (??) French Fries
Tucked away in the back corner of South Broadway’s TRVE Brewing you’ll find Music City Hot Chicken, a hidden Denver dining gem doling out quite possibly some of the city’s finest french fries — thick-cut, extra crispy, perfectly salted curly fries, with dozens of dipping sauces to boot.
Something for St. Patty’s Day
Order a Shamrock Shake
Sure, green beers are fun, but have you ever experienced the sweet, minty deliciousness of this St. Patrick’s Day dessert? We recommend going to Slater’s 50/50, which usually releases some variation of a limited-edition minty green milkshake decked out with sprinkles, whipped cream, and Lucky Charms marshmallows. Pro-tip: Make it boozy with a shot of Jameson.
Find Denver’s Best Shepherd’s Pie
Get in the Irish spirit with a heaping helping of shepherd’s pie — a culinary staple of our friends across the pond. Most Irish and English pubs will offer a take on it. We recommend making the trek to Henry’s Pub in Loveland for their variation filled with Colorado lamb, bacon, peas, carrots, mushrooms, and a creamy IPA sauce, topped with cheddar mashed potatoes.
