This season’s local theater lineup is one for the books, with dozens of unique, can’t-miss performances. Here are the ones I’m most excited about:
Cebollas
This DCPA dramedy about three sisters on a road trip from Albuquerque to Denver with a dead body in the car made its debut at the 2022 Colorado New Play Summit. If you love to laugh and appreciate a good family-centered story, you don’t want to miss this gem.
- Also opening soon at the DCPA: “Rubicon” and “The Improvised Shakespeare Company.” I also recommend checking out at least a reading or two at the Colorado New Play Summit (Feb. 24-25) for a sneak peek of what’s up-and-coming!
The Nacirema Society
Firehouse Theater is bringing another Pearl Cleage script to the stage. Set in 1964, this play tells the story of six African American debutantes in Montgomery, Alabama, and their introduction to society amid scandal, young love, and societal upheaval.
The Legend of Georgia McBride
This play about an Elvis impersonator who becomes a drag queen also got its start at the New Play Summit (2013). Now even a decade later, this show biz comedy is still bound to light up the stage at Vintage Theatre.
