It’s e-bike voucher release day! Today marks the first drop of the year for Denver’s extremely popular e-bike rebate program. But this year the city is switching things up a bit — the eligibility for the vouchers is limited to low- and middle-income residents and riders needing an adaptive e-bike.
The rebate offers up to $450 off e-bikes at participating stores and the vouchers go quickly, so we’ve put together a handy guide for applying and a few other helpful tips ☺️
Navigating the Application Process
To be eligible, your household income must be below the Colorado median income. For example, a single person would need to have an income below $91,280; a rider applying with a family of four would need an income under $130,400.
Next, you’ll have to create an account for the voucher portal: www.denverclimaterebates.com. (We recommend doing so before applications open.)
The application process opens at 11 a.m. and you’ll need to upload documentation of proof of residency and income eligibility. (The list of acceptable documents can be found on the city’s website.)
Try to log in to the portal as soon after 11 a.m. as possible to snag a voucher. If you’re lucky, the voucher will be emailed to you to use at a participating store within 90 days.
If you miss this one, don’t worry! Future voucher release days occur May 27, July 29, Sept. 30, and Nov. 25.
Combining With the State Tax Credit
Denver’s e-bike vouchers can be combined with the state’s $450 e-bike tax credit for up to $900 off your e-bike purchase. The state tax credit is available to all Colorado residents and offered at the time of purchase at participating stores.
The combined $900 credits can only cover 80% of the price of an e-bike, not including sales tax. Additional rebates are also available for adaptive e-bikes for people with disabilities.
Buying Your E-Bike
Bring your voucher and proof of residency, or just proof of residency, to a participating bike shop, which can be found on the city’s website. The rebate and tax credit will be taken off the purchase price.
