Like pickles, people, and paying it forward? This week, I’m highlighting local nonprofit The People’s Pickles, a transitional job-training program geared toward Denverites trying to reenter the workforce after being incarcerated, in recovery, or experiencing homelessness.
The People’s Pickles was founded in 2019 by Marcus Weaver, who was inspired to create an organization committed to giving second chances because, well, he’s been granted so many himself (following health issues, legal run-ins, and surviving the 2012 Aurora theater shooting).
Weaver’s nonprofit operates in conjunction with the Community Outreach Service Center in Five Points. The People’s Pickles offers workforce readiness courses, training and certification programs, peer mentoring, and case management to men and women in transitional life situations, while also employing them to create the most delicious pickles in Denver (based on an old Weaver family recipe!).
Here’s where you come in — ordering your own jar(s) of The People’s Pickles’ pickles directly helps advance the mission of the organization, providing resources, employment opportunities, and second chances to the Denverites who need it most. Not a pickle person, but love the cause? You can also donate directly here.
You can learn more about Weaver and The People’s Pickles in this recent Denverite profile.
