| What Denver's Talking About |
| | 📚 Petals & Pages Closing Permanently | The queer, women-owned indie bookstore (and winner of Best Small Business at our own inaugural Denver-est Denver Awards last December) has been a local staple, specifically among the LGBTQ+ community, since its 2022 opening in the Art District on Santa Fe. Woeful comments from fans and followers flooded the business’s Instagram post announcing the news Monday morning. Owner Dylah Ray told us the decision was a long-time coming. “Community building and financial viability don’t always go together,” she said. “We pushed it until the very last month that we could. I want people to know that.” | - What’s next: Ray tells us she is open to trying again in the future, but there are no plans at this time, and next steps are unclear. She encourages the community to come say goodbye to the store and help clear remaining inventory before their final day on April 12. Petals & Pages will host a farewell celebration on April 25 on Indie Bookstore Day.
| | 🚘 Car Thefts Continue to Plummet | Car thefts in Colorado dropped for a third year in a row (down 34% from 2024 to 2025). This marks a significant improvement from 2021 when Colorado had the most vehicle thefts per capita in the nation, according to data from Colorado State Patrol. Chevy Silverados were the number one stolen vehicle in the state. [Denver Post 🔒] | - What changed? Listen to our conversation with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority back in 2023 who helped break it down for us. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
| | | | 🗳️ New Allegations Surface Ahead of State Assembly Vote | Over the weekend in Pueblo, Democratic Party delegates decided which candidates would advance to June’s primary ballot. Just hours ahead of the vote, a recently registered 501(c)4 called NMN Action Fund shared seven former staffers’ allegations of workplace abuse and micromanaging against Secretary of State Jena Griswold, who is running for attorney general. Griswold ultimately won a plurality of delegates, with 41% of the vote, securing her spot on the ballot, though questions about these allegations will likely linger. | - Who is behind NMN Action Fund? Because it is a 501(c)4, the group is not legally required to disclose its donors (some would call it a “dark money” group).
- What we know: Producer Paul Karolyi was in Pueblo for the assembly, and he reports on the story in today’s City Cast Denver podcast, including a statement from the people behind NMN Action Fund.

🚰 Water cooler convo: If the drought conditions currently plaguing Colorado continue, water restrictions and wildfire risks (and possibly surcharges for Denver Water customers) are to be expected along the Front Range this spring and summer. What we didn’t expect? Bears 👀 🐻 |
