This week, producer Paul Karolyi wants to share his favorite way to spend a day on South Broadway, that beautiful strip of shops, restaurants, theaters, and music venues in Baker where Denver’s counter-culture community has gathered for decades.
Paul says: “Ever since I heard the news that Mutiny Information Cafe was in trouble, I’ve been meaning to get back over there to support it and some of my other favorite South Broadway spots.”
🍕Pizza To Eat: “My personal pizza pick for this area has got to be the classic late-night slice counter Pie Hole. They’ve got a beautiful mural of a pizza volcano out front, some pretty creative topping combos on the menu, and they’ll even warm up a chocolate chip cookie in the pizza oven for you if you ask nicely.”
🛍️ Somewhere to Shop On The Cheap: “Maybe you’re thinking ahead to your Halloween costume, maybe you’re in the market for a well-loved pair of jeans — the Goodwill at 21 S. Broadway has got you covered. I’ve never been able to walk past without taking a quick peek.”
📽️Something to Do: “Is there a more beautiful theater in Denver than The Mayan? No, there is not. The Art Deco movie palace on South Broadway has so many passionate fans that they were even able to save it from redevelopment back in the ’80s. And now that it’s fall, their lack of AC isn’t a problem at all!”
🗣️ What's a day in YOUR neighborhood look like? We’d love to share it in a future neighborhood spotlight segment. Write in to denver@citycast.fm, or leave us a voicemail at 720-500-5418.
