Buckle up, we’re taking a trip to B-town today — located about 30 minutes northeast of Denver, a town of incredibly confusing borders, the city where I grew up, and forever my favorite place to get good Mexican food.

🦅 Get your nature on: Fishing, cycling, hiking, horseback riding, boating — you can find it all at Barr Lake State Park. Stroll along the boardwalk, enjoy the view from the ADA accessible fishing pier, have a quiet lunch under one of the boardwalk gazebos, or sharpen your aim at the park’s archery range.

🍓 Go produce-pickin’: Berry Patch Farms is a family-owned, certified organic, 40-acre working farm where community members can pick their own strawberries, raspberries, pie cherries, plums, basil, flowers, and more! (Season depending, of course.)

🌯 Bites and bevs: In the mood for something funky, fresh, and elevated? Big Choice Brewing and Pizzeria offers signature craft beer, handmade artisan pizza, and a ‘90s-themed punk rock-inspired taproom. Looking for a taste of that Brighton Mexican fare I’m always boasting about? Head over to the third-generation family-owned La Estrellita where you’ll find award-winning, locally lauded Mexican eats.

👙 Beat the heat: Brighton Oasis is the area’s coolest watering hole with two massive water slides, a lazy river, wave generator, climbing wall, water basketball, kiddie pool, and a full concession stand. Bonus: Don’t miss Adult Night (complete with food, booze, and live music) on July 14 and Aug. 4.

🗓️ Mark your calendar: Carmichael Park is the city’s go-to community gathering space. It has an expansive playground area for the kiddos and tons of green space for neighborhood events, plus two gazebos available for rent. Happening all summer, don’t miss the city’s Flix & Kicks movie and concert series in the park.
