A perfect slice of Denver, the Speer neighborhood sits close enough to the eclectic shops of South Broadway while still offering its own selection of local dining options and cute coffee shops, plus a beautiful mix of architecture past and present. The area’s residents are especially excited over recent plans for a new multi-story mixed-use development slated for the busy intersection of Lincoln and 1st Avenue — but until then, here are a few other things to love about Speer.

🍟 Gaia Masala Burger

This restaurant’s wildly flavorful menu features everything from samosas and shawarma to pizza and cheesesteaks. But the star of the show? French fries that come in cajun, sichuan pepper, and cheesy masala varieties. Oh, and night owls take note — this late night spot is open until 2 a.m. seven days a week!

🍩 Parlor Doughnuts

Indulge in a flakey sweet treat from this specialty donut purveyor, which bakes up croissant-like pastries in flavors including french toast, lemonade, and churro. The shop also boasts a tasty menu of specialty coffees, like iced matchas, Mayan mochas, and classic lattes.

🌳 Alamo Placita Park

The former home of Chutes Park, one of Denver’s early amusement parks, this greenspace was later purchased by the City, redesigned, and renamed Alamo Placita in 1930. The small but beautiful neighborhood hangout offers basketball courts, a playground, and plenty of tree shade.

🎨 Art Students League of Denver

Serving artists of all ages and every level, this local creativity hub hosts classes in figure drawing, sewing, ceramics, and more. The historic 1890s Sherman school building is also home to artist residencies, seasonal art markets, summer art camps for kids, and community-centered events.

☕ Lil Coffea Shop

Taking over a former Starbucks location on busy 6th Avenue, this homegrown coffee shop was opened in 2021 by the folks behind Little India. Grab a salted snickerdoodle latte or snack from an extensive menu of toasts, breakfast sandwiches, coffee cakes, and more brunch items than you can dream of.
