On my plate this week: Chada Thai. For longtime readers, you might already know I’m a huuuge fan of this delicious little Cap Hill gem.

Tucked along 17th Avenue at Race Street sits my fave Thai restaurant in the city — blink and you might miss it. It has a teeny tiny dining room and walls crowded with old newspaper clippings and photos of founder Lily Chittivej. Dine-in meals are served on disposable plates with plasticware. Local lore claims Chada Thai was the very first Thai restaurant in the U.S. (though, I’m not sure how anyone could prove that). And I love every single thing about it.

My go-to order: crispy curried wonton puffs; traditional, wide rice noodle pad see ew (with chicken and mild spice); sweet coconut milk sticky rice; and a Thai iced tea. Read a full homage to Chada Thai that I wrote in this newsletter from last year.

Rating:
10/10; I will never miss an opportunity to stop by!
